Sandy Smith Signature Series Knife

Please Choose:

Caricature Carver of America woodcarver Sandy Smith and Helvie Knives have been working together to bring out a new signature knife.

Sandy and her husband, Gary, retired to the Ozarks in 1999 after her career in typesetting/graphic arts, and Gary's 22 years as a Marine Corps pilot. Following a brief period of experimenting with intarsia, Sandy found a second home with both the Lakeview Woodcarvers and the North Arkansas Woodcarvers Club. Beginning with the tutelage of Jack Ryan under the insistent pressure of neighbors Arlene and Don Lesiak to try woodcarving, she was hooked from the first lesson in the spring of 2000. Classes with Ron Wells and Harold Enlow strengthened her newfound "compulsion", and several months later she attended her first Woodcarving Rendezvous II in Branson, Missouri. Seminars with Ed Zinger, Phil Bishop, Gerald Sears, and Randy Landen turned her compulsion into an obsession. More coaxing from fellow woodcarvers pressured her into entering her first woodcarving competition in Kansas City, Missouri in 2002 and a couple months later, she placed Best of Novice at her home club which graduated her out of beginner status.

Since that time Sandy has competed at various shows throughout the mid-west, and has entered carvings in CCA competitions and the International Woodcarvers competition. Sandy has been greatly influenced by all of her carving instructors and classmates, learning and sharing techniques with everyone she can. CCA members that she has had seminars with include Phil & Vicki Bishop, Randy Landen, Harold Enlow, Gerald Sears, Harley Schmitgen, Tom Brown, Desiree Hajny, and David Sabol.

Sandy is a member of the Caricature Carvers of America, North Arkansas Woodcarvers Club, the National Wood Carvers Association, and the Affiliated Wood Carvers, Ltd. She is the NAWC webmaster and newsletter editor, and is co-chairman of the NAWC Show Committee.
